World's oldest nuclear power plant shut down

The Calder Hall plant in the UK, the oldest nuclear power plant in the world, was permanently shut down on 1 April 2003. The plant, operated by British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL), has four small reactors with a rated capacity of 60 MW each. The plant had produced 72.7 TWh since its 1956 startup, giving a load factor of 73.5% throughout its service life. This was the fourth reactor to be shut down at the plant, joining the three others shut down last year.
