Sixth Transport of vitrified residues to the Netherlands

A railway shipment of one package of vitrified residues is organised today from AREVA’s railway terminal in Valognes (France) to the storage facility in Covra1 (Netherlands).

This sixth shipment is operated in accordance with commercial contracts between the Dutch electric company EPZ2 and AREVA, existing intergovernmental agreements between France and the Netherlands concerning the recycling of Dutch used nuclear fuel in France, as well as and the French regulation stating that 100 % of the nuclear waste belonging to a foreign country have to be returned into their country of origin.

The shipment is implemented with one TN® 28 VT cask containing 28 canisters of vitrified residues.

The transport cask used is fully compliant with safety criteria defined by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and is designed to ensure people and environment protection in all circumstances.

This shipment is implemented in compliance with national and international regulations in order to guarantee a high level of safety and security.
