The transport of one cask of vitrified nuclear residues is scheduled to leave COGEMA LOGISTICS’ railway terminal in Valognes (France) today at 18.05 pm and to reach the COVRA interim storage facility in Vlissingen (Netherlands) on April, 7th 2005.
According to the commercial contracts signed between the Dutch power company EPZ and COGEMA and the intergovernmental agreements concluded between France and the Netherlands, the nuclear spent fuel of the Borssele power plant is sent to France for reprocessing.
The cask used for transport fully complies with the very strict regulation criteria defined by the International Atomic Energy Agency (AEIA). Besides, nuclear material transportation meets national and international regulations in order to guarantee a high level of safety.
