Brief
Nuclear energy experts have gathered for a conference in Moscow organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from June 27 to July 2. Fifty years of nuclear power will be reviewed and the next 50 years discussed. The industry experts noted that 22 of the last 31 reactors were built in Asia, and that 17 of the 28 reactors on order are also for Asia.
Mohamed Elbaradei stated that the more nations look towards the future, the more they will become aware of the benefits of nuclear power in terms of the environment and economic growth.
Conference topics include short-term and long-term projections, environmental impacts and climate change, new reactor costs in a deregulated economy, nuclear safety, and waste management.
