Brief
On March 16, the OECD Agencies (NEA and IEA) published a new study updating 1998 figures on the costs of generating electricity in 19 OECD member countries and 3 non-members countries. The study provides generation cost estimates for over a hundred power plants including coal-fired, gas-fired, nuclear, hydro, solar and wind plants. According to NEA Director General, data show that "economy is no longer a problem for nuclear due to the steady rise in natural gas prices in the recent past and the significant increase in capacity factors for nuclear plants operating today".
