Press release

AREVA has won a series of contracts in China and in Spain within the framework of its Safety Alliance program, which aims to offer nuclear operators high-performance products and services to guarantee the safety of their plants:

  • Two contracts have been signed for the supply of Passive Autocatalytic Recombiner (PAR) systems. The first is with Iberdrola to equip the Spanish nuclear power plant Cofrentes and the second in China with CGN to equip YangJiang reactors 5 and 6.

With these systems, the hydrogen released in the event of an accident can be transformed into water vapor, thereby preserving the integrity of the reactor containment.

  • A contract has also been signed with CNNC in China to supply filtered containment venting systems for the Fuqing reactors 5 and 6.

In the event of a serious accident causing a rise in internal pressure, the technology makes it possible to maintain the integrity of the reactor containment and protect the environment by ensuring retention of radioactive materials.

"This series of contracts confirms our position as a global leader in the market for nuclear safety equipment and underlines the confidence that utilities place in us in this field" said Philippe Samama, executive vice president of the Reactors & Services Business Group at AREVA.
