Tuesday, October 25, 2011, COMURHEX Malvési has won the Environment Award as part of the "Responsible Care” Mediterranean Awards 2011 (*), organized by the French chemical industries association, the UIC.
This award is a form of recognition for COMURHEX Malvési’s work on the research and development of a process to significantly reduce emissions of nitrous oxide (**) (N2O) generated during the process of uranium conversion. The commissioning of this equipment in the second half of 2010, after more than six months of work and an investment of over 3 million euros, has helped destroy more than 132,000 tons of CO2 equivalent in N2O and contributes to significantly reducing the impact of our activities on the environment.
This project is a continuation of our efforts in line with the Kyoto Protocol. The project was one of 16 finalists for the 2011 edition of the AREVA Sustainable & Innovation Awards (ASDA). The "Reducing greenhouse gases at COMURHEX Malvési" project team consisted of J.Deplaix, C.Iche, T.Guinot, G.Cerles, R.Bednarz, and J.Rouchy.
