MEETING AREVA 2013: record attendance!

7/8/2013
News brief

The 5th MEETING AREVA brought together the world’s greatest athletes at the Stade de France on July 6. Naturally, one of them was Usain Bolt, who turned in the best performance of the year with a 19'73 time in the 200 m. Renaud Lavillenie was there, too, taking first place in the pole vault at 5.92m. And Mahiedine Mekhissi beat the European record for the 3,000 m steeplechase at 8’00”09.

With more than 50,200 spectators in the stands from the four corners of the earth, including 1,700 of the group’s employees, the latest edition of MEETING AREVA set another record as well: attendance was at an all-time high.

Employees joined forces on the field of the Stade de France after the sports events, where they posed for a unique photo with Luc Oursel and Françoise Larribe as a gesture of solidarity with Daniel Larribe, Marc Féret, Thierry Dol et Pierre Legrand, who have been held hostage for more than 1,000 days. Everyone wore a blue cheche in solidarity with our colleagues.

For the 5th year in a row, the group put on its "TOUS AU MEETING AREVA" operation. Nearly 10,000 young people from disadvantaged neighborhoods were invited to attend one of the world's greatest track and field events.

The operation was made possible by AREVA Foundation, the French Athletics Federation, the French Handisport Federation, the National Network of Businesses for Equal Opportunities in Education, the Plaine Commune, the National Council of Local Missions, and the Association for the Education and Integration of Young People.

The objective? To give them the opportunity to see the stars and learn about the values of track and field – and perhaps to become athletes themselves!
