The first shipment of vitrified wastes from France to Switzerland, which was announced by the Swiss electric utility KKG and COGEMA on 28/11/2001, will leave the rail terminal at Valognes today. The convoy is to arrive in Switzerland on 12/12/2001.
The Castor HAW 20/28 CG transport cask containing 28 canisters of vitrified wastes will be unloaded from the train and taken to a special storage building at Zwilag, Würenlingen. The cask and canisters have undergone the regulatory and contractual inspections required for their departure from the COGEMA La Hague plant.
