Clarification on mining exploration in Jordan

10/23/2012
Press release

AREVA denies the information in today’s press alleging that “an AREVA mining exploitation licence has been cancelled by the Jordanian Authorities.”

This is an exploration mining agreement which expired.

AREVA has been present in Jordan since January 2009 through the Jordanian French Uranium Mining Company (JFUMC), a 50/50 subsidiary with the Jordan state, where it has been conducting mining exploration works in the Central Jordan area.

During approximately 4 years, AREVA has been carrying out important exploration works leading to the discovery of uranium quantities exceeding 20,000 metric tons in 70 square km, on 15-20 meter depths.

Jordanian Authorities has decided not to extend the first phase of the mining agreement, which terminated in early 2012. As a result, the mining agreement has been terminated by mutual consent of all parties.
