The question of how best to integrate biodiversity into business strategies and practices is the challenge set by the international Business and Biodiversity symposium. AREVA is co-sponsoring the symposium, organized by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). It will bring together representatives from 200 global companies actively engaged in sustainable development activities, as well as the French association Entreprises pour l’Environnement (EpE ).
The symposium will take place alongside the 10th summit of the United Nations (UN) Convention on Biological Diversity in Nagoya, Japan. The climax of the UN’s International Year of Biodiversity, this summit should uncork a new action plan with precise and workable targets. Among the objectives is an agreement on financial support destined for the protection of wilderness areas in developing southern hemisphere countries. Additionally, a set of guidelines will be laid out as to how to properly distribute funds issued from local resources.
AREVA's pledge to protect global biodiversity follows from our long-standing commitment to progress. Touching on many levels of the group's industrial activities, biodiversity is a major issue for the group.
