At the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Pressure Vessels and Piping conference in Prague, six prizes were today awarded to engineering and physical sciences graduate and under-graduate students who submitted papers for the Student Paper Competition.

As one of the main sponsors for the ASME conference, AREVA supported the Student Paper Competition, which awards $1,000 to each of the finalist students, plus $1,000 for the winner, $800 for the first runner up, and $500 for the second runner up in each of the two categories (PhD and MS/BS).

The Student Paper Competition of the ASME calls for technical papers authored by students covering all areas relevant to the activities of the ASME’s Pressure Vessel and Piping Division (PVPD), which include codes & standards, high-pressure technology, design & analysis, materials & fabrication, seismic engineering and others.

The annual ASME PVP conference, attended by around 700 technical experts from around the world is a technical forum for discussing PVP technologies, codes and standards for the power and process industries. It takes for form of panel sessions, workshops, tutorials and demonstrations, with a special session reserved for presenting and judging the student papers.

Jean-Claude Gauthier, Senior Vice President, AREVA NP, who delivered the ASME PVP conference’s opening plenary presentation, says, "AREVA is an important international player in the ASME field and contributes to the development of the three main nuclear codes, ASME, KTA and RCC-M and is deeply involved in the various working groups.  We are also playing our part in harmonizing international practices. We are pleased to support young academics, and I congratulate the winners. Promoting young talents who will shape future research and technology is part of our efforts to contribute to the evolution of codes."
