AREVA celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

At AREVA, we have a strong commitment to corporate observance of human rights. AREVA recently participated in the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the Palais de Chaillot in Paris.

AREVA helped organize two events for this anniversary. One was the International Companies and Human Rights Seminar in Paris on December 4-5. Thirty corporate managers, representatives from non-commercial associations and government officials attended a “Leaders’ Breakfast” before the seminar. The other was the closing ceremony of the French Foreign Affairs Ministry’s December 10th anniversary party, with a “Smiles, Resistance, Hope” exhibit.

The seminar was officially opened by Rama Yade, the French Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs & Human Rights. It was presided over by the honorary chair for the Business Leaders Initiative on Human Rights (BLIHR), Mary Robinson. Ms. Robinson is also president of Realizing Rights: The Ethical Globalization Initiative, and a former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The 300 representatives from governments, companies, trade unions and non-commercial associations discussed subjects such as how to reconcile company business with human rights, and how to integrate human rights values into issues like access to health care and education, dwindling natural resources, and climate change.
