On March 23, 2005, Framatome ANP, an AREVA and Siemens Company, contracted Bouygues Travaux Publics SA to construct the reactor building, the four safeguard buildings and the spent fuel storage building. Construction, which is scheduled to take around three years, is slated to commence in the summer of this year.
Construction of these buildings is among the largest construction projects implemented to date in Finland. The specially designed, solid concrete outer shells of these buildings will later be part of the EPR's comprehensive safety design concept. They are designed to withstand even the impact of a large airplane.
Bouygues Travaux Publics SA secured the contract in the face of stiff competition from several vendors in Finland, France and Germany and will perform the contract with the support of several Finnish partners. This contract is the project's largest individual civil engineering order. Invitations to tender for several auxiliary buildings will be issued in the course of the year.
