AREVA appoints UK President and reaffirms commitment to UK

12/3/2008
Press release

AREVA, the world leader in nuclear power, has appointed Jean-Jacques Gautrot as President of a newly created AREVA UK, and is to establish a permanent office in London. M. Gautrot, who was previously AREVA Senior Vice President for International and Marketing, will head the expansion of AREVA’s activities in the UK.

This follows the selection of Nuclear Management Partners, where AREVA is one of the partners, to manage Sellafield, and submission of the EPRTM for approval by UK authorities. In 2006, the AREVA’s Transmission & Distribution division has been appointed preferred partner by National Grid.

Mr Gautrot said “the UK is now a key market, both for new build and waste management, as the international nuclear renaissance gets under way. We look forward to working with British companies to provide opportunities for them and our own employees both in the UK and further afield as part of our worldwide expansion.”

He will report to the AREVA CEO Anne Lauvergeon, and will also act as her Special Adviser for international new build marketing activities.

AREVA is the only company which covers all aspects of nuclear operations from mining to reactor design and construction to the recycling of used fuel. The EPRTM is one of two being considered for approval by the UK Nuclear Inspectorate for projected new nuclear power stations in the UK. Besides nuclear, its interests in the UK include a major Transmission and Distribution business which provides control systems for the electricity and oil and gas industries including North Sea wind farms.
