Appointments within the AREVA group

• Martha Heitzmann is appointed Senior Executive Vice President, Research & Innovation. She is a member of the Executive Committee.
Martha Heitzmann reports to Didier Benedetti, Executive Officer in charge of process optimization.
This appointment is effective since March 1, 2011.

• Alain Bucaille is appointed Senior Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer on strategic prospectives.
He will work with the Strategy Department to ensure that the group’s strategic priorities are known to and embraced by employees, and will support the different corporate departments by stimulation innovation in all its forms.
This appointment is effective since March 1, 2011.

Biographical elements

Martha Heitzmann holds a doctorate degree in Environmental and Chemical Engineering from Harvard and an MBA from the Collège des Ingénieurs. She began her career in 1990 as Advisor to the General Manager of the Republic of the Marshall Islands’ Environmental Protection Authority. From 1993 to 1999, Martha Heitzmann held various positions within the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank related to environmental infrastructure and technology.

From 1999 to 2007, Martha Heitzmann was Principal Administrator, Performance and Environmental Information Division at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). From 2007 to January 2011, she has been Vice President, Research & Development for the Air Liquide Group.

Alain Bucaille is a graduate of Polytechnique and the Corps des Mines. He began his career in several positions abroad, notably in New Caledonia, Japan and Australia. On returning to France in the 1980s, he took part in drafting a variety of tax reforms and was rapporteur of the Research & Innovation Commission for the French Government’s planning office. In 1989, he joined the Lafarge group as Subsidiary Vice President, then moved on to be Vice President, Research & Innovation.

In 1997, he became General Manager of Hermès, a position he held for four years. He presides over the Colbert committee’s anti-counterfeit commission. In 2001, he became advisor to Anne Lauvergeon, AREVA CEO. Since January 2006, he is Senior Vice President in charge of Research & Innovation of the AREVA group. Alain Bucaille also teaches climate change and technologies mutations in the energy field at HEC and the Imperial College of London.
