For the second time, AREVA called on extra-financial rating agency VIGEO to assess the level of social responsibility of one of its businesses. Like the first time with the rating of its uranium extraction business, AREVA wanted the process used for a business where the sustainable development issues are especially significant and sensitive - thus the choice of its Cleanup Business Unit.
The VIGEO audit assessed the level of social responsibility in four different areas: human rights, human resources, environment, and market behavior. On a scale of 1 to 4 (4 being the highest rating denoting "advanced commitment"), the Cleanup business received a rating of 2 or 3, depending on the area. In general, the business unit's performance was neither particularly weak nor particularly excellent.
AREVA Senior Vice President of Sustainable Development and Continuous Improvement Guy Bousquet declared, "This rating gives us a clear idea of how far the Cleanup Business Unit has to go to pull itself up to the same level of excellence as the other group businesses. From now on, the BU needs to keep up its good pace to achieve its goals."
