Press release

AREVA NP has been awarded a contract by the operator Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Corporation (KHNP) to supply Filtered Containment Venting Systems (FCVS) to the Wolsong 2, 3 and 4 nuclear reactors.

Part of AREVA NP’s Safety Alliance program, the FCVS technology is designed to maintain the integrity of the reactor containment building and protect the environment by containing radioactive materials in the event of a serious accident generating a rise in internal pressure.

This device meets the requirements of the majority of safety authorities around the world and is compatible with the various reactor types. As a world leader in this field, AREVA NP has installed more than 70 FCVS systems in 12 countries to date, including Wolsong 1.

“This new contract confirms AREVA NP’s position as a world leader for this technology and demonstrates the confidence of our utility customers” said Michael Cerruti, Sales Executive Vice-President of AREVA’s Reactors & Services Business Group.
