Within the framework of its missions to inform, consult and debate on nuclear safety matters, the High Committee for Transparency and Information on Nuclear Security held its quarterly plenary meeting on Tuesday, December 6.

On the agenda was a specific item addressing the issue of carbon concentration in certain parts of components equipping the French nuclear fleet. Representatives of the key parties involved presented the technical and background data surrounding this question, as well as the impact on nuclear power generation in France.

David Emond, Executive Vice President of the AREVA NP's Components BU, looked at the manufacturing techniques liable to generate carbon segregations in certain parts of forged steel components and explained the assessment program underway on the parts concerned.

David Emond also answered questions from HCTISN members.

On November 23, an HCTISN working group had visited the workshops at Le Creusot and held work meetings with management to discuss strategic orientations at the site, with a particular focus on the audit and on the quality plan underway.
