Press release

The BBC Shanghai, which left the port of Cherbourg (France) on October 15, 2015, arrived in Australia today. Specialized in the transportation of nuclear materials, the ship carried packages of medium-level waste arising from the treatment and recycling of reusable materials for the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO).

After discharging operations performed by ANSTO, the casks will be transported by two trucks to ANSTO’s Lucas Heights storage. The sea shipment of around 13,500 nautical miles (more than 25,000 km) complied with stringent safety and security requirements, illustrating again AREVA's ability to organize the entire operational organization for this type of shipment for its customers. Backed by 50 years of know-how, AREVA is the world’s leading specialist in nuclear materials transportation.
